National Day Celebration (Describe an event)

It was National Day.  The school was in a jubilant mood as the different uniformed groups were going to be part of a grand march past that day.  As the various groups gathered at the parade square, the school waited with bated breath for the contingent to start their marching.

Soon, the music from the military band echoed through the walls of the campus.  The excited student body howled and cheered.  Everyone was looking for their friends in the contingent, and when they spotted them, they shouted words of encouragement to their buddies who looked smart and proud in the word.

Suddenly, a sharp, loud and piercing was heard.  The principal, who was known to be an edgy lady, screamed for the whole school to keep quiet.  Caught by the sudden but explosive outburst, the whole school was stunned into silence.  The heavy breathing of the principal could be heard through the PA system.  The uniformed groups, which were now standing at attention, were petrified of the now deranged principal.

Over the school PA system, the principal berated the whole school and harangued them on the virtues of propriety.  This was a parade, she claimed, and not a party.  Thus, the students had only to applaud to cheer the groups on and not make unnecessary noises like what they were doing.  She also scolded the prefects for not doing their work properly.  Their role, she insisted, was to ensure that the students know what they were supposed to do.  She then continued that since they had failed so miserably in their duties, they should just write a reflection of what they had done wrong and hand it in to her by the afternoon.

The once jubilant mood was now an atmosphere of tension and unease.  The scene was one of silence and everyone barely dared to move an inch.  Suddenly, with a loud but long scream, the principal instructed for the parade to continue.  She was running a school of students, not zombies, she snarled.

The band started playing, and the march-past resumed.  However, no one was enjoying the parade anymore.  A happy occasion had turned out to be a rather moody one.  The parade and National Day celebration lasted for what seemed like an eternity.  All the students and teachers could not wait for it to end so that they could get away from school as soon as possible.  It was a celebration that had turned awry
